That was a decent roller-coaster. All the while I was conflicted whether to like this show or not, whether it’s mediocre and silly, and time and time again it surprised me. I can’t really tell why, it just has a bunch of everything and it’s holding it together unexpectedly well. I want to say that it has an original plot, magic concept or world building, but it’s all completely fabricated from everywhere and everything. It’s a strange sort of monster that until the didn’t completely fall into comic absurd and maybe that is the reason. The amount of honest effort you see that was put into this. Almost none of it was half-assed in any manner, all the fights were thorough and most character arcs are complete when it’s due.
It’s not a masterpiece in terms of visuals or animation by any means, it’s well below average by any metric compared to the giants at the top. But it was still nice.
Except for the naming conventions… it’s ridiculous and I hate it, even if it made chuckle at times. Seriously, greatest magician is Gandalf? Greatest warrior is Aragorn? And a devil named Chris? No for real, CHRIS?! I’d like to try some of that pu er they were drinking while writing this silly thing.
