That grunge track at 8:55 hits real hard. It’s another form of portraying a moment of enlightenment, that usually goes very flashy in other donghua. It’s more akin to gaining a new Dao insight, but MC didn’t get any new powers from this. It was instead a spiritual one, for sure.
I also like how our hero didn’t immediately dismissed the comforts and riches of the mountain. Even when he was reminded of an old friend that may or may not be in a tight spot, he didn’t rush to check on him. He enjoyed it for a while, the meals, the drinks, the festivities, the comfort and most importantly – safety. It’s what he was fighting for so desperately all this time. The fact that he lived through it for a period of time adds some depth to his character, which I must admit, wasn’t getting much growth all this time.
Such a good series! (but mc eating 1 single strand of noodles at a time lmao)
